Hey, I'm Jeff

I was 13 when I found my mum's old record player in the loft. Alongside it, a crate of vinyl. Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline. Neil Young's After the Gold Rush. Cream's Disraeli Gears. I'd never heard any of them.

I plugged in the turntable, dropped the needle on Nashville Skyline, and something clicked. The warmth, the ritual, the way you actually listen to an album instead of skipping through it. I was hooked.

That was decades ago. I've owned more turntables than I'd care to admit, made every mistake in the book, and spent far too many hours reading forums and reviews. Eventually, friends started asking what to buy. I got tired of repeating myself, so I started writing it down. That became this site.

What I Actually Do

I'm not sponsored by any brand. I don't get free equipment. I just like doing research and helping people avoid the mistakes I made.

I spend hours reading expert reviews, watching comparison videos, and digging through Reddit and the Steve Hoffman forums to find what actually works. Then I write it up so you can skip the 40-hour rabbit hole and get straight to the answer.

I'm upfront about something: I haven't personally owned every turntable on this site. What I have done is read hundreds of reviews and forum posts to find the consensus. When experts agree, I tell you. When they disagree, I tell you that too.

Vinyl was my first obsession, but I've since applied the same research approach to a few other hobbies. Espresso. Home gym equipment. 3D printing. Same process: go deep, find the consensus, write it up.

The handle "Espresso_Jeff" stuck from another project, so you'll find me under that name everywhere, even when I'm talking about turntables.
